We appreciate everyone who was apart of our highly successful Prince of Persia/Assassin’s Creed marathon for the Gulf Restoration Network. Whether it was donating, promoting or sitting back and enjoying the show, you guys make what we do unbelievable.  Although we did not quiet reach our goal,  the over $10,500 is nothing to scoff at. That is over $3,000 more than what we raised last year at this same time.  Our community continues to grow at a rapid pace. Its awesome getting to chat with all of you guys during what seems like gaming festivals about every other month.

Next up is the Castlevania series over Halloween weekend. We are going to be teaming up with another charity, RockingHRanch to  raise money for a great cause.  I’m going to wait for the exact details before I spill the beans, so keep checking back for more details.  For those of you that don’t know, the Rocking Ranch is where we gamed for our last marathon.  We want to thank the Hoover family for letting us use their property. We all had a great time.

Getting back to our speed gaming roots is a request that we hear ever so often. It is tough for us to master each game series we do when we are constantly playing new franchises and having to juggle work, school and family life. Within the events a lot of the runs shine but are sometimes washed out by games that, for example, a runner had to drop out of playing and we needed a last minute replacement. We’ve had huge feats such as catching all of the Pokemon in 72 hours (which some thought was impossible) and too many runs to name that were stellar.  It would be too easy for us to pick out world class runners that have offered up their services , but we want to stay within our community and most importantly within the core TSG team. We know that the fans and community of TSG don’t want to see the same series’s over and over, so its a tough balance. Repeat the same series’s year after year and have high quality runs, or sacrifice the quality of the runs with more diversity of the games we play. I think in 2011 you will see many series that we will impress you with and a lot of familiar faces. The same goes for our next series, Castlevania.  Expect a lot of quality runs.

Since when did Disney turn Mickey into a selfish jerk?

At the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle over the weekend, Disney allowed people to play the first level of Epic Mickey, this fall’s big Wii game. This level is mainly tutorial, teaching you how to run, jump and spray paint and thinner on the space of the world – making things appear and disappear.

Here’s the interesting part, Mickey can make moral decisions too. At one part in the level you find one of Mickey’s friends, a little Disney Gremlin, standing on a catapult near a treasure chest. You can decide to either save your friend the Gremlin and win a gold pin but not be allowed to open the treasure chest OR catapult him to his possible death and have the chest all to yourself. Be a good Mickey or an evil one?

Making different moral decisions determines how your game will turn out, eg: the experience can be slightly different every time. Other decisions include whether to spray enemies with thinner to defeat them or with paint to befriend them (odd but true). As the player tends to either be more nice or more mean little floating specks of colour begin to follow Mickey acting as a sort of shield and either beat up enemies or befriend them for you depending on which side you lean to.

It’s still unclear how a lot of this variation will work out in the game but hopefully it will give players a lot of flexibility in their playing style and how they express the morality of their character.

The video after the jump shows gameplay of said level and shows Mickey saving the gremlin guy at the end. Epic Mickey to be released exclusively for Wii on November 1st in North America.

A little late on this one, but with all the news we’ve been getting lately, its difficult to shell out every story that comes out. But I digress.

No Heroes Allowed! is the newest game in the Badman franchise. For those of you unfamiliar with said franchise, it revolves around Dungeon Strategy. The main goal of the franchise is to help Badman take over the world by killing unsuspecting heroes in a dungeon of your creation. You set out on many dungeon digging adventures in the process. You can check out details on No Heroes Allowed! after the leap. Click to continue reading.

Fighting Fundays is an irregular weekly segment by the Unofficial Fighting Games Guru of TSG, GrimsChild as he takes a look at fighting games ranging from good to bad and old to new.

SNK didn’t exactly have a very good reputation during the final days of the sixth generation of console gaming.. At the time gamers had all but given up hope on SNK with the Neo Geo being overpriced and with the next generation of consoles coming out such as Sony’s new PS2, SNK had every right to be worried about their upcoming competition (didn’t help that the Dreamcast flunked at that time either). However, instead of being melanchloic about the situation, they wanted to go out with a bang creating a game that everyone would remember SNK for. Sadly, the game didn’t sell well and unlike Squeenix’s Final Fantasy move SNK then dissappeared from the home console market leaving behind one last relic of their former glory, Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

Welcome to a new kind of blog experience.  As a gamer, I always wish to try new and interesting things, and as a writer, I wish for you to experience many different types of columns.

The experiment:  Play/buy a video game that I know NOTHING about and have zero prior experience with.  Write about my experience and how I would rate the game/story/series!  Profit?

This week’s experiment took me into deep space, and the tactical RTS game known only as Starcraft II.  Join me after the jump as I talk about my experiences with Medusa Clones, a cliche’ story and surprisingly nice multi-player experiences.
