We’ve already heard that the 3DS broke Nintendo’s portable sales records on launch day in the United States. Unfortunately, those high sales numbers don’t sound like they’re lasting. According to Lazard Capital Markets’ senior analyst, Colin Sebastian, sales have been slowing. “Based on our recent checks, we believe that sales of the 3DS have slowed considerably since the initial launch window.” Although, he points out that the Easter holiday may give the system a bump.

We haven’t heard anything about Europe, but we know Japan’s sales have slumped off, leaving a little under half the amount of units shipped on store shelves. We still don’t know how many 3DS units have sold in the United States, but some analysts have taken some estimates. Webush Morgan’s Michael Pachter has estimated 500,000 units sold through March. Crowen and Company’s Doug Creutz predicts a much larger 750,000 unit sale figure.

At least to my knowledge, there’s no shortage of hardware, which is both a good and a bad thing. I’m sure launch numbers will be big  for U.S., but we will probably have to wait until April’s NPD reports to see the slump is true.
