I noticed that I never posted Rust’s amazing ad for our new shirt on the front page. Better late than never!
What a great year for TheSpeedGamer community. In 2010 we raised over $129,000 out of our total $254,000. That doesn’t include the unforgettable auction we helped host with our friends over at Fangamer that pulled in $10,146 for the Michael J Fox Foundation. 2011 looks to be an even bigger year starting with a surprise announcement regarding our upcoming marathons. We are hoping to make that announcement on January 1st.
On a side note the “TSG Boy” shirts have arrived and will be shipping this Monday.
What a marathon! With over $5,000 left to raise and under 24 hours left to go in our Kingdom Heart’s marathon, a lot of people thought it was impossible to reach our goal. In the end, we raised over $10,000 for bestfriends.org and surpassed our goal.
The move to Justin.tv proved to be a success. We reached viewer amounts that we have not seen since the Mario Marathon, and we were able to reach our goal even with the 48 hours of technical issues that we had with paypal. We are still working with Justin.tv to make sure everyone is able to view us. We are thinking up ways on our end so that people with lower download speeds and various computer setups can view us with less difficulty. I think by the Pokemon marathon we will have everything resolved.
Each day behind the scenes was filled with monopoly, campfires, smores, cards and other shenanigans. It was a lot of fun meeting the community members and hanging out with them for the weekend.
Everyone who took part in the marathon should be very proud. Without the promotion or viewers we could not have done it. I say this a lot but it needs to be said again; We have the best community on the interwebs!
See you guys this Spring!

ACT-Today has made their way back into the Pepsi Refresh contest for December. This time around they are in the $50,000 category and only need to place in the top 10 to win $50,000. Vote 2 times each day: http://www.refresheverything.com/helpmilitaryautism and Text 104466 to 73774. The $50,000 will go towards helping military children with autism.
We are holding a contest in our forums for voters here.
This past Friday we helped host an auction along side Fangamer to raise money for michaeljfox.org, in support of Parkinson’s research. Fangamer was entrusted with several Earthbound plushies and stickers to raise money for a charity. They made a great choice in charity and we were proud to represent.
Our two communities came together in an amazing effort and raised $10,146!!
I want to thank Fangamer for the letting us co-host the event. We had a ton of fun and look forward to working with Fangamer again in the future.
This month ACT Today will be reentering the Pepsi Refresh contest in the $50,000 category. We no longer need to place in the top 2 for ACT Today to win, the top 10 will win $50,000. I was going through ideas of how we can make October a successful month for the contest.
EDIT: Last minute change of plans, Pepsi refresh didn’t accept ACT Today’s application, and also didn’t let us know until yesterday, so instead we will be raising money for them instead. Sorry for the confusion.
I think that by us streaming (the local TSG members) it causes burnout amongst the viewers and it kind of lessens TSG’s appeal. To put it bluntly, you guys get tired of seeing our faces. I also don’t want to detract at all away from our Castlevania marathon. Tthe best way to counter this is to have you guys take over the reigns. The community can now step into the spotlight and show us ya moves! We will do our best to promote each daily stream whether it’s through twitter, facebook etc. We will have a dedicated page for the community streamers so that there’s a central meet up page. http://www.thespeedgamers.com/community-stream We would like for the streams to start anywhere between 5-7 central. Of course, we will be kicking off the month with Halo Reach Friday night (Oct 1) at 6pm central
