Capcom has supported the Wii with quite a bit of  hardcore content over the years, but according to Antoine Seux of Capcom France their approach to the console might be changing soon. ( A quick note about the interview, it comes from a google translation so some of the quotes sound a bit strange.)

Despite Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles being a success, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles is currently falling short of sales expectations according to Seux. He says “After three weeks, we are at total of 16,000 units sold. One feels that there is a problem very clear on this style of game on the Wii, where gamers are obviously moved on.

Seux says that poor performance of other hardcore 3rd party titles like House of the Dead: Overkill and Madworld also support his concerns over the Wii market. He still believes that the Wii is an important part of the market though, but just in the more family friendly direction.

When asked to comment on 2010 Seux said “We should see the rise of the PS3 and Xbox 360, with, hopefully, expansion of game styles, open to a wider audience.

I’m sure Nintendo is not to happy about this, especially so soon after SEGA said they were most likely cutting their support for M-rated titles on the Wii. You can’t really blame Capcom though since other then Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Monster Hunter Tri in Japan most of their titles have performed quite poorly on the system.

As for Capcom’s current Wii line up, they are launching Tatsunoko vs. Capcom world wide this January and Monster Hunter Tri is coming to North America and Europe early 2010.

Why don’t companies realize it doesn’t matter if they make hardcore games for the Wii if they aren’t good. DX

I don’t know about other people, but I don’t buy generic FPS cruddy games, I only get good ones, now instead of companies actually making good games, they just pump out generic FPSs that any xbox/ps3 owner rushes out to buy.

Did I read that correctly? Are they blaming the system for their failure?
