Capcom has been in the fighting genre buisness for a long time. Over that time they have done 2D,3D, and 2.5D fighters, but Capcom currently sees a bright future in one specifically, the 2.5D fighter.
“Right now, you see that we’re trying to move away from straight-up traditional 2D fighting into what I guess you’d call ’2.5D,’ where you take the 3D fighter models and marry them to a 2D fighting plane. For now, that’s the way we’re going to go,” said Tatsunoko vs. Capcom’s producer Ryoto Niitsuma.
Niitsuma said that Capcom intends on trying new things in the 2.5D fighting field though. One of the examples he uses is being able to incorporate camera movement in the 2.5D style. “It’s still a 2D fighting field, but the camera moves in a 3D space. That’s just one possibility of something we’d like to be able to do.”
As of right now Capcom’s two big upcoming 2.5D style fighters are Super Street Fighter IV and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, the latter of which is hitting later this month.

When I first glanced at the picture I thought the background was Pokemon Stadium 2 from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
I know that a few months ago they said Nintendo vs Capcom would be something they would like to do, but I doubt they have any serious plans for it. I would love to see a TvC2 if TvC sells well enough. (PHOENIX WRIGHT PLZ)
