WayFoward has been at the forefront of making beautiful and fun 2D games for years now. Ever since gaining popularity with Shantae on the Game Boy Color, they have been unstoppable. Mighty Switch Force is the third entry in a series of titles WayForward has been releasing for Nintendo’s downloadable services and it is also the first of those titles to arrive for 3DS. With some interesting mechanics that led to some pretty challenging later stages, Mighty Switch Force is a great start for downloadable 3DS games.
Saints Row: The Third is the evolution of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. If there was an alternate reality where Rockstar decided not to take a more serious tone with Grand Theft Auto IV, this is where I feel they might have ended up. It’s crude, violent, hilarious, and it has a pacing that most open world games can’t manage.
Okay, another week and it’s time for the second part of this review. The supposed main focus of both of these games where the time is meant to be spent and where you get your money’s worth – Multiplayer. Let’s look at the conclusion of the battle between Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Trenched, or Iron Brigade as the original title was changed to (it’s still called Trenched in the US until November 30th, when it releases in Europe), is yet another stylized title in the portfolio of developer Double Fine Games. It takes the third person shooter genre and tilts it on its ear, adding in strong tower defense elements as your mechanized mobile armor, called a trench, stands guard against waves of various televised monstrosities, the pawns of two altered geniuses locked in battle with the fate of the world on the line. So is their arcade offering a blast, or is Iron Brigade shooting blanks?
It’s a double review this week from me, as I take a look at the two shooting heavyweights – Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3. I’ll be looking at both the single and multiplayer and seeing just how well they stand up, but first – the Campaign gets my attention before I go for the multiplayer. Let’s dive in.
The recent throwback to last-generation games got me thinking of other games I loved in my childhood while I was growing up. Then I remembered my first game that was in 3D, as in you could move in three dimensions. Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time – it’s time to jump back in to see if time has served the game well.
Nathan Drake, the wise-cracking treasure hunter, returns for a third time in Naughty Dog’s newest title, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. For readers who don’t know, Uncharted 2 won Game of the Year 2009 from various sites such as IGN, Kotaku, Giant Bomb, Joystiq, Eurogamer and many more. Has Naughty Dog pulled it off yet again?
