The Zelda series has seen quite a few forms of transportation. Link started out on foot and eventually mounted his very own horse before taking control of a boat. Next month Link will also have used trains to help him fight evil. But what is next?

In a interview with The Guardian, Eiji Aonuma briefly spoke about his child starting to play The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.“I have an eight-year-old son myself at home, and quite recently he started playing Phantom Hourglass for DS, because when the software first hit the market he was too young. When he started playing with the boat, I told him: ‘In the next Zelda, you are going to be able to ride on the train.’ He answered: ‘OK, Dad, first boat, and then train? Surely next time, Link is going to fly in the sky … ‘” Aonuma paused and then grinned saying “I just don’t know. If many people make many speculations … some of them might be correct. Right now, I have to refrain from commenting on anything.

Link has already been launched from a cannon quite a few times, but I’m sure he would appreciate a much easier and less painful way of getting around via the sky.

It was just Aonuma’s son saying it, but often you hear about developers taking inspiration from people and things around them in real life.  So maybe in the next Zelda we will see Link cruising the skies with a Airship or something similar.

The Hylians are apparently descendants of the Oocca (bird creatures from Twilight Princess), and they had a city in the sky. Maybe one of the games could take place in a time when Hylians were just starting to become humanoid, but still had wings to allow them to fly. You could fly around shooting enemies with Bomb Arrows…that would be AWESOME!

Heheheh….I came up with the plane idea first, just so you know, but I wasn’t being serious. But it would be neat to have a plane with a cannon mounted to it. Just imagine, a Zelda like that!

Link fighting evil wherever it may hide… including airports! Link sets out on a journey where he may have to fight many things, including lines in the airport. _awesome_

I’m happy with flying as long as it doesn’t get modern.

The Legend of Modern Zelda: Spirit Jets

I wouldn’t mind playing as Link on a plane having to deal with a smelly old lady sitting next to him who can’t seem to keep her stuff to her side.

I highly doubt it’s as simple or obvious as “ZOMG A PLANE.” We’ll never know until debut, but remember that it’s Zelda, not Halo. 99% of Zelda speculation is amusingly false. Or falsely amusing.

Lol, if he’s gonna fly, maybe not a plane just yet. It might be a set of feathered wings that he can actually wear and use, but i don’t see him riding a plane yet. =/

Though, that’s just me. I haven’t played the DS games yet with the boat, so maybe I’m too far behind. I might play Spirit Tracks, though.
