The FFXIV Beta Test Site site has the following latest update:
“Currently, we are experiencing technical difficulties with FINAL FANTASY where certain areas of the servers would go down on numerous occassions. The issue is currently being investigated, but we will require some time to address the matter.
Due to these issues, we have decided to temporarily suspend the beta test as of Aug. 12, 2010 at 8:00 (PDT).
Please be advised that we have not been able to determine when the service will be back up, but we will make sure to let you know as soon as it is determined.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Yeaaaah, that happened to me the first night too.
I gave up and uninstalled FF14 a month ago. The servers are the most unstable servers in the world. They say oh we fixed it next day it goes down and they act as if nothing happened. The servers literally go down every day. It’s the most ridiculous beta I’ve ever been in.
I’ve noticed that as well, pretty sad, I know its the BETA and all, but shesh, try to keep servers up if you want feedback besides the ”SERVERS ARE DOWN!!” ones
When Beta went up 24/7, it worked well for a good week. Then they were like BETA 3, TIME TO WIPE EVERYTHING lol.
