Well it’s the last day of the marathon! Let’s get those last-minute donations in and end on a high note! We got to make our comeback! C’mon people we can do this! LET’S BE ANIMAL HEROES. And speaking of animal heroes, let’s look at today’s ice level! It’s “Let’s Melt Snow and Rebuild N.Y. City,” from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was originally a comic that parodied other GRIMDARK comic books of the 80′s. Terrapins trained in the martial arts who were named after famous artists? THAT’S JUST SILLY. But the comic was adapted into an even sillier cartoon, and stars were thus born. One of the most beloved arcade games of the day was Konami’s TMNT game. Four players each controlled a different turtle and basically just ran around the stage beating up evil. It was so good that the second TMNT game for the Nintendo was titled “The Arcade Game.” That’s how famously awesome it was. But the NES game did add a few all-new levels, and one of them was an ice level.
“Let’s Melt Snow and Rebuild N.Y. City” is quite a long name for a stage, don’t you think? Anyway, the urgency of this stage is kind of funny to me. I mean yeah, it’s weird that the city wasn’t snowy just a few stages ago, but this is New York. The city’s more than prepared for a snowstorm. So yeah, you walk around on the snow, which I guess proves that the Turtles are endothermic testudines. Giant ice blocks fall from who knows where as you fight members of the evil Foot Clan. But after that you fight SNOWMEN THAT FIRE ROCKETS AT YOU. YEAH THAT’S RIGHT. Turns out the snowmen are robots, as are so many things the Turtles beat up. Giant snowplows also try to run you down. When you get to the end of the stage, a huge drill pops out of the ground, and out walks Tora. What’s Tora? A giant arctic wolf in a leather jacket, of course! Tora’s attacks consist only of throwing giant ice blocks at you and punching you. When you beat him, the little robotic orb floating nearby is destroyed, and New York is bright and sunny again.
TORA TORA TORA! Incidentally this character was created just for the game. Get the full wallpaper here!
But want to know what’s even prettier? The remix! That’s right, it’s Select Start’s arrangement of A Wish! If this doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, then get back to your plans of world domination, you unfeeling robot. This version of A Wish was for the OILD 2009 soundtrack. Don’t forget to get the OILD 2010 soundtrack though! It’s just as rad!
So yeah, let’s finish off this marathon right! Help us SMAAAASH our goal, ok?
