SEGA’s 2009 House of the Dead Overkill was one of the first titles to challenge the Wii’s Mature market. Unfortunately, it didn’t go so well. Sales were decent, but nothing stunning.

But that might not  stop SEGA from creating a sequel. Nintendolife has heard from inside sources close to SEGA that a sequel is in the works. Unfortunately, no details were disclosed. But we can speculate that, now with PlayStation Move, it may go multiplatform, or possibly not even show up on Wii.

The title was an on-rails grind house gore fest with a focus on dark humor, blood, guts, zombies, curse words and and more M rated things. The title even held the record for the most F bombs dropped in a title for a year. It was only recently overthrown by Mafia II.

It would be great to see the series to continue. Hopefully people will actually buy it this time. At one point, some numbers were floating around suggesting more copies of the game were pirated than purchased, which is just sad.

SEGA took quite a risk putting three M rated titles, two of which were new IPs, on the Wii. While some of their titles turned out better then others, they all didn’t exactly move stunning numbers.

SEGA is planning to give these titles another push in Australia with their new Welcome to Violence bundle. This bundle includes Mad World, The Conduit, and House of the Dead Overkill. All of the price of $109.95 AUD. It will be available March 11th.

Not a bad bundle at all. It would be nice to see this move to other regions.

SEGA took quite a gamble with Wii releasing not only three mature games, but two of which were new IPs as well. While the titles did okay, they didn’t really break any sale records. Despite low sales SEGA said they would continue to stick by the market, unfortunately that is no longer the case.

On the 4 Guys 1UP Podcast Constantine Hantzopoulos, one of SEGA’s studio directors, talked about the low performance of their titles on Wii. After explaining the situation of The Conduit, House of the Dead Overkill and Mad World Hantzopoulous said “…are we going to do more mature titles for the Wii? And it’s like, probably not.

Hantzopoulos says that the final nail in the coffin was the poor performance of Dead Space Extraction.

The WiiZapper hasn’t really been promoted at all since Link’s Crossbow Training. Most on rail shooters use it, but the only way you can tell is by a small icon on the boxes. It looks like Nintendo may be planning on trying to push the shell again though. In Europe and Australia Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will be bundled with the WiiZapper and in Japan House of the Dead Overkill will be bundled with it as well.

As of right now North America doesn’t have any announced bundles, but considering the WiiZapper wasn’t received well, most people probably won’t miss the bundles minus the awesome looking boxes. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles bundle will be released in Europe November 27th and the House of the Dead Overkill bundle will be out in Japan September 17th.
