Two new Wii bundles are in the works- A black Wii packed with New Super Mario Bros. and a Super Mario Galaxy Soundtrack is set to launch in the US on October 23rd, and a blue Wii with the new Mario and Sonic at London 2012 Olympic Games ready to emerge in the EU with the game’s release November 18th.
While these bundles may seem exciting, being brand new smaller models, their form factor comes at a lofty cost indeed: any and all gamecube support has been removed from the system. The four controller ports and memory card slots have been stripped from this new model to afford its’ smaller size, and these new models are unable to read the older system’s mini-discs.

Club Nintendo has revealed some honestly pretty disappointing rewards. Platinum members can score a set of 25 pins featuring various Mario characters, and Gold members can get a 2012 calender. Considering the platinum rewards in the past, such as the special Punch Out Wii! Wiiware download that let you fight against Doc, but there isn’t much to complain about because as long as you qualify for them the prizes are free so hurry up and claim them. If you didn’t qualify this year there is always next year and hey maybe they will have something cooler than some silly pins.
Nintendo has explained much of the mystery behind Mario’s design. The reason for his hat, overalls and mustache all branch from technical limitations. So why is he pudgy little plumber? Technical limitations strike again! According to Miyamoto, the collision boxes for gaming devices at the time could only be squares. Therefore, Mario was plumped out on the sides to fill the entire collision box. Miyamoto also explains that Mario’s face is so large due to the low resolution of the platform.
It’s almost impossible to even imagine what Mario would look like if he was created without these technical limitations. Almost every aspect of the plumber is due to this or that being too hard to do on the hardware.
Don’t ever change, Mario.

We’ve all probably knew that the upcoming Mario Sports Mix would have a wide variety of characters from many different franchises, but now they’re really upping the ante!
The reccuring Final Fantasy monster “Behemoth” will be making an appearance as a boss encounter, where you must defeat him with your amazing volleyball skills.
No. I’m not kidding. Yes. that sentence was as ridiculous and awesome as I’d typed it out as. You can checkout a gameplay video right after the jump, and stay tuned for more Mario Sports Mix news and announcements!
With New Super Mario Brothers Wii pretty much crushing Super Mario Galaxy 2 in sales, one has to wonder if Nintendo might move away from the 3D format of Mario titles. Sure, they still make plenty of money, but the 2D titles make more money. So there may be some concern when moving into Nintendo’s next platform the 3DS.
At a investors Q & A session, Miyamoto was asked which type of Mario title he would like to move forward with on Nintendo 3DS. Miyamoto mentioned the pros and cons of each title, saying that 3D titles give players more control, but alienates part of the audience. But at the end of the day, it sounds like everyone will be happy. “When asked ‘what will we do on 3DS,’ the answer is, of course, we’ll make both. They both have their own appeal,” answered Miyamoto.
Apparently, Miyamoto might have said too much. Iwata followed up the statement with “You went more in-depth than I’d been expected. This is the first I’ve heard of this.” Miyamoto jokingly replied, “No good? Don’t tell any game magazine people.” Seems the investors didn’t listen to him.
Currently, Paper Mario 3DS and Mario Kart 3DS are the only officially announced Mario titles for Nintendo 3DS.
A French source recently informed GoNintendo of a Japense magezine with details on the upcoming Paper Mario 3DS, the fourth game in the Paper Mario Series. The magazine states that Paper Mario 3DS will release in Japan in 2010. Obviously, this means that we could see the 3DS hit Japanese shelves this year.

During my very early Monday commentating time, I showed the old Super Mario Bros. comic book I had, with an included audio cassette tape with voice actors reading the lines. Well, I captured this audio and put it in a video with scans from the comic pages. The intent was to show them during my commentating shifts, but unfortunately I forgot to show more than the first. Well, as planned from the start, here they are uploaded for your viewing pleasure whenever you wish.
More after the break.
Ok so now for something REAL. It’s the giveaway art for the Mario marathon! This time we’re doing something a little different. These pictures are in COLOR and have been made into nice little prints. YAY!
