Are both of your pockets always full? In one you have your phone, and the other a silly handheld gaming device? No more! Sony has announced the Xperia play, previously known as the rumored PlayStation Phone!
The Xperia play is exactly what its rumored name was, a PlayStation Phone. Make calls, browse the web, take pictures, and all those other fancy features your phone can do along with playing full fledge titles using an actual control pad rather than a keypad or onscreen controls. The only exception is a touch pad on the middle of the system for analog control.
As of right now, the only carrier listed for the platform is Verizon, but Sony is working with other carriers to have the phone available at a later date.
So when can you get your hands on the Xperia Play? March 2011, available in either black or white. The platform will launch with 50 titles, with Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Bruce Lee, Star Battalion, The Sims 3 and Tetris pre-loaded on the platform. While not available at launch, Sony is looking into the ability yo play titles from the Xperia Play directly on a TV using an HDMI cable.
Sony also released a bunch of information on random features and specs for the system. You can check out that massive list after the jump. Although it is notable that the battery life for pure gameplay time is 5 hours and 30minutes.
So, Xperia Play. Yey or nay?

Engadget is claiming that they have the first pictures of the PlayStation Phone, saying that multiple inside sources have confirmed the device.
The device very much looks like the PSPGo, but with some phone buttons tossed on there. While the Prototype lacks an analog nub, there is a touch pad between the d-pad and the face buttons. There was a bunch of other technical mumbo jumbo rumored a few months back, you can check out that post here.
It’s still unclear whether or not the rumored PlayStation Phone and rumored PlayStation Portable 2 are the same device. We will have to wait for more details in the future.
You can check out Engadget’s full set of leaked images over on their website.

We have been hearing a bit about the PSP2 for awhile. And while inside sources previously said Sony planned on announcing the platform at Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show, both have passed and here we are still with no PSP2 announcement.
Develop-Online claims that an inside source has confirmed that PSP2 dev kits are now in the hands of multiple third party developers to start working on titles for the platform.
Rumors have been floating around of a PlayStation Phone is in development, and would run off the Android 3.0 platform. Whether or not the PlayStation Phone rumor and PlayStation Portable 2 rumor are the same device is unclear.
But if software developers truly have their hands on the kits, it will only be a matter of time until software will be ready to be shown.
Engadget seemed incredibly confident about its claims of a PlayStation Phone, but Tech Radar did some of their own digging. And while they didn’t find proof of the platform’s existence, they did get an interesting response from a developer.
Apparently, when a high up developer was questioned about the rumors of the PlayStation Phone, they simply replied that they were under NDA. Does that necessarily mean there is a PlayStation Phone? Not exactly, but it is a step in the right direction.
CVG spoke with Sony about the rumors, but the usual “we do not comment on rumour and speculation,” answer was given.
Gamescom is next week and Tokyo Game Show is next month. So if we are going to find out the truth behind all of this, it will probably be within the next month or so.
