30 hour-long tutorial, linear gameplay – it’s safe to say Final Fantasy XIII isn’t going to be fondly remembered by most. Square Enix took the criticism it was force-fed and hid until they produced a sequel. Did they listen to the harsh criticisms, or will they stand stubborn in the face of adversity? Let’s find out..
Saints Row: The Third is the evolution of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. If there was an alternate reality where Rockstar decided not to take a more serious tone with Grand Theft Auto IV, this is where I feel they might have ended up. It’s crude, violent, hilarious, and it has a pacing that most open world games can’t manage.
Trenched, or Iron Brigade as the original title was changed to (it’s still called Trenched in the US until November 30th, when it releases in Europe), is yet another stylized title in the portfolio of developer Double Fine Games. It takes the third person shooter genre and tilts it on its ear, adding in strong tower defense elements as your mechanized mobile armor, called a trench, stands guard against waves of various televised monstrosities, the pawns of two altered geniuses locked in battle with the fate of the world on the line. So is their arcade offering a blast, or is Iron Brigade shooting blanks?
The release of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and Peace Walker for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 has been known about for a while now (along with a code that can be redeemed to obtain the original Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation 3 version). However in a recent development, Konami plans to release each game as separate downloads on the Playstation Network and the Xbox Live Marketplace. Peace Walker is already planned for a download on the Japanese Play Station Network for 4,480 en ($58 although an international release will probably be cheaper). The following two weeks later, MGS2&3 will be released two weeks later on November 23rd for either 3,480 en each ($45) or 4,980 for both ($65). It has also been confirmed that all three titles will be available on XBLA sometime next year for an unknown price.
While Phoenix Wright appearing in UMVC3 pretty much dis confirms him as a DLC character in Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I doubt anyone would have thought that he’d be able to shoot laser beams out of his hand or summoning the judge to slam a gavel on his opponent (Probably a reference to the opening of Justice For All). All this and more is revealed in the latest batch of trailers by Capcom displaying the aforementioned layer and Nova, a superhero whose special powers include laser eyes and flight (Kind of like Superman except gold). These characters go with the Doctor Strange, Firebrand, Ghost Rider, Frank West, Hawkeye, Nenesis T-Type, Iron Fist, Strider Hiryu, Rocket Racoon and Vergil who will also be new arrivals to UMVC3. Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom will be released for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 in November this year.
Bought a new 250GB Slim model 360 only to be outclassed by your buddies and their shiny new limited edition consoles, rubbing their larger hard drives in your face?
Well, put your jealousy to rest later this month when Microsoft makes that same hard drive available to buy for a measly $129.99! And to make it even more tempting, they’re throwing in a free download of LEGO Star Wars III!
And considering that’s currently the price point of the 250GB hard drive, it’s more than likely the smaller option will get a reduced price soon as well.
If you’re a person who loves to have shiny and glossy items in your house, you might not be pleased with this. Microsoft has decided to change the outer finish of their Xbox 360 models from glossy to matte.
Glossy is that beautiful, shiny finish, but has a nasty down side by getting incredibly dirty from a single touch. Finger prints and hand prints everywhere. Most people know of gloss, but what about matte? Matte is a rough and coarse finish that feels slightly weird in the hand. It’s does not reflect light, like gloss does and it doesn’t get as dirty as it’s beautiful brother.
So if you’re a person who prefers a glossy console, pick up your Xbox 360 soon because Microsoft is making and shipping out those matte bad boys within the next few weeks.
“We are actively transitioning all our Xbox 360 S consoles to a matte finish. The consoles will start to arrive in stores over the coming weeks, so if you really love the idea of a glossy console don’t wait much longer. Of course, we still may offer a gloss finish on Limited Edition consoles like the upcoming Gears of War 3, but if you have your eye on a glossy black console you don’t have much time left.”
Atlus over the years has remained a heavy force in terms of Japanese content. And up until the PlayStation 2, they’ve been pumping out Shin Megami Tensei titles on the console left and right. But suddenly, when we hit the HD generation, the team fell back almost entirely onto the portable scene. Sure, they’ve been publishing titles for the HD platforms, but none of them have been from their own internal teams. Thankfully, Atlus is finally stepping back into the console ring with their first in-house developed HD title, Catherine.
Coming out this Holiday season, the Star Wars Kinect bundle is definitely something that catches the eye.
It includes a 320 GB Slim model Xbox 360 with an R2-D2 paintjob and custom disc tray and power sounds, a special white Kinect, a special C-3P0 golden wireless 360 controller(one of the new models with the transforming D-Pad), a wired headset, Kinect Adventures, and of course Star Wars Kinect with exclusive downloadable goodies.
And the best part is that all this can be yours for the low price of $449(same price as a 250 GB/Kinect Bundle and Star Wars Kinect if purchased individually).
I’ve been looking for a reason to upgrade to a slim model, and this just might be what does it for me…
